Application Notice for SWUFE 2025 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) offers the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. This scholarship serves the purpose of satisfying the growing demands of the international communities for qualified Chinese language teachers, and facilitating international education of Chinese language outside of China. The applications to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in particular for such a scholarship should follow the guidelines below, a version with reference to the Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship released by CLEC.
1. Eligibility
a) Be a non-Chinese citizen;
b) Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the SWUFE;
c) Be in good physical and mental health
d) Be interested in Chinese language education and related work;
e) Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45.
2. Scholarship Types and Qualifications
a) Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
The program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026 and provides a scholarship for a maximum of eleven months.
a. For Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL), applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.
b. For Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc., applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
c. For Chinese Language Study, applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.
b) Scholarship for One-Semester Study
The program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026 and provides a scholarship of a maximum of five months.
For TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy study, applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.
3. Application Procedures
a) Visit the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn). Please search for recommending institutions and host institutions, choose “Southwestern University of Finance and Economics(SWUFE)” as the host institution, submit the online application as required;
b) Please submit the online application via https://swufe.17gz.org. If you need "Southwestern University of Finance and Economics" as the recommendation institution, please send your application number to international@swufe.edu.cn.The applicants who pass the review will obtain the recommendation letter issued by SWUFE(the application fee is CNY 600).
c) Please track the application progress, comments and result.
4. Application Deadlines (Beijing Time)
(1) May 10th, 2025 (for programs commencing in September 2025)
(2) October 31st , 2025 (for programs commencing in March 2026)
5. Scholarship Criteria and Application Documents
(1) The scholarship for Chinese Teaching Program provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. The scholarship for online program only covers tuition fee. Please refer to International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Coverage and Criteria (Attachment 1) for the scholarship coverage.

6. Policies Regarding In-service Chinese Language Teachers and Chinese Bridge Winners
1. In-Service Chinese Language Teachers
In-service Chinese language teachers need to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.
2. Chinese Bridge Winners
Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions
directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

7. Others
(1) Applicants who have received a similar scholarship within three years are not eligible for the One-Semester Study Program or One-Year Study Program.
(2) Those who fail to register on time, fail to pass the health assessment, drop out midway, and/or are suspended from school will be deprived of their scholarship.
(3) If the contents of this Application Notice are inconsistent with the documents of national relevant departments, the Ministry of Education or CLEC, the latter shall prevail.
